I won something! Aaaahhh!

I was surfing around last night, not really doing anything, and I found a drawing for a free knitting book on a blog I check about twice a month. Appreciating the word free, I entered, not really considering that I would win, but feeling as if I might as well try. Well, guess what? I won! I can't believe it! Go see what I won, follow the links! I am much more excited than I sound! I'm going to have to try knitting a pair of these as soon as I get the book, which might not be the best time since it'll be in the middle of May, but I can't deny the cosmos when they command me to knit! Ok, now I have to go write two term papers, but after that, I'll be working on a hat someone hired me to knit for them. Details at 11.

Pick-chures! Oh Boy!

Katie's socks, in all their glory. I'll get them sent eventually. Like September.
Closeups!
The front of my sweater. It just looks longer here, but it has a secret.
Look! A pocket! Oh, that mischievous sweater front!

BTW, I knit the rib stitch band at the bottom with the size 6 needles instead of the size 5 needles, making it too loose. It also curls. Gah! Two steps forward, one step back. And I'm not going to frog it for that one little thing either. I didn't frog it when I noticed, back before the pocket, and I'm not frogging it now.

Fsssshhhh...Rumble...Crash

That is the sound of an avalanche of work falling on my head. Five papers due on Monday, play performances ever night from 6-11, on top of classes and exams. Sorry about the lack of posting, and waiting for the pictures. I'm sure all you beautiful people who read my blog (ie no one) were very worried about me finishing the Monkey socks, and I did finish the pocket on the front of my sweater. I don't have time to take pictures, though, because I still have to finish four of the five essays. Ugh. Wish me luck, innernets!

A-switter, A-swatter, A-swiddledy-sweater

Workin' on the front of my sweater. The pocket comes next. I can't wait. The pocket will be so cool, and I will finish the sweater and wear it and it will be awesome. Anyway.

I also finished Mom's wool wristwarmers. They're itchy, but whatever. It's what she wanted.

I want a Pirate Hat. http://www.helloyarn.com/wecallthempirates.pdf I want one in black and purple, and I think I'll try in a larger yarn with size 4 needles, take out the borders, tweak the pattern, and see if I like it. If I do, I'll line it in something fleecy. And it will be my Pirate hat. And if I really like it, I'll make on for everyone with the same pattern. Awesomeness.

Also, finished the first Monkey sock. Pic next time.

Progress

Whew! Speed knitting indeed.

The Low-down

A lot has happened in the last two days. I got some yarn in the mail:
And started knitting it right away, in a pattern Katie picked. Since Katie bought the yarn and the socks were for Katie, I figured this was only polite.

I've got this much done so far; ready for the heel!
Pattern: Monkey socks from
Yarn: Knitpicks Gloss in Dusk
http://www.knitpicks.com/Gloss_YD5420151.html

Also, not very happy with the heel on Clessidra. It's in Seed Stitch, and is much larger than a regular sock heel, and it is huge and stretchy on my heel. I'm going to go ahead and finish the first one, but if I finish it and don't like it, I'm going to frog back and redo the heel. Man I love knitting!

A Little Knitting

Three more pairs of baby sox! And one on the way, making that seven and 1/4 pairs in all. They're so wonderful to knit, fast and simple.
I was in the costume shop one day knitting my socks and the lady in charge there saw me and asked if I'd be interested in knitting preemie socks for charity. I said, "Sure," because I've considered it before and just couldn't afford the postage and good yarn, me being a college student and all. So I got the yarn a couple weeks ago, and she gave me a pattern for booties too. I tried the pattern but it confused me horribly; I don't think anyone could have followed it, so I surfed and found a pattern for baby socks. I made two pairs of those, one in the larger first, then one in the smaller, brought them to the lady, and she said the smaller ones were the right size, so I've made five more pairs since then.
I'm gonna make as many tonight as I can. I hope to get at least two more pairs tonight, counting the one I started earlier.

As the Knit Turns

*Symphonic chord* When last we left our heroine, Sarah had been in the process of making socks. Unknown to the knee-high Clessidra sock, she had been having an affair with a pair of garish, striped socks with a simple yet intoxicating pattern which showed off its stripeyness to perfection. Observe:
As that affair waned, she found herself in the family way. With a little one on the way, she turned her hands to making itty bitty baby socks, simple and wonderful in their ability to be finished in a few hours. Within a day she had two pair:
and had not tired of this at all.
A call rang out in the darkness. Answering the phone, Sarah heard the voice of her doctor. "Sarah, this is Dr. Kavorkian. I called as soon as I found out. The tests got switched! You aren't pregnant!"
Relieved, yet strangely disappointed, and not ready to give up knitting for babies, Sarah found a good charity in the area that catered to ill babies so she could donate the socks. Inspired by the charity, she held a ball to raise money for the organization. At this ball, Clessidra learned of the traitorous affair, and made a big scene that, of course, ended in tears

as Clessidra turned its back on her, rushing out of the ball, and perhaps out of her life forever.
Sarah, overcome with remorse and anger, at first tried to get back at Clessidra by starting the front of her sweater:

but could not rid her mind of the hurt look on the face of Clessidra. Resolutely she set aside the barely begun sweater, picked up some baby yarn to start a new baby sock, and began thinking of a scheme to get Clessidra back.
*Symphonic chord* Join us next time to see if our heroine is successful in her attempt to resecure the affections of Clessidra, and to learn the outcomes of her charity ball.

Mail Time!

Guess what I got?

Jealous much?
