Nothing is as it Seams (Hehe)

I have two exams tomorrow, so of course I'm seaming up my sweater.

Sorry about the crappy editing, I'm not very computer savvy. Anyway, I've got both sleeves sewn on, and one side seamed up. I just need to seam up the other side, knit on the hood (find the circular needle), and block it. Then I can wear it with pride! As long as it doesn't get wet. Then I would wear it with stink. Why must wool smell like death when wet?

Wow. A week.

I ran out of yarn. The shawl is finished. I didn't put a border on it, just got it wet and stretched it out on the wall. The dollar bill is there for scale. It isn't as big as it looks. It's gonna be for a kid, I'm sure.

I've been knitting more preemie socks. I need to start a new pair of socks, maybe using a mystery pattern I got, or a cabled one I found, but all I have are striped sock yarn, and cables don't look so well in striped yarn. Meh. I'll think of something.

I ordered some yarn from Knitpicks. Four skeins of peruvian wool, two in purple and two in black. I'm going to make some mittens from the Selbuvotter book. They will be awesome. I got the money by participating in an experiment for a Psych major. I had to pick someone out of a lineup from a pic that didn't look like a face, so whatever. I got ten dollars out of it. Yay!

I messed up my lace scarf pattern. I have to tink back two rows. Dang. I gotta stop knitting it while I watch tv. It requires more attention than that, and I'm so close to the end I can taste it! What a beautiful scarf it will be too. It will instantly transform me into a 5'10", clear skin, gorgeous, witty, popular genius. I just know it.

Or maybe it'll just make me feel like that. Either way.

Incense, Peppermints, The Color of Time

Not much happening here lately. Started a new pair of gloves for Julie, but I messed up the fingers so they're too short. I'm gonna have to mess up the fingers on the second one too now. I'm knitting a Kiri shawl http://www.alltangledup.com/movabletype/my_images/my_patterns/kiri.pdf

So I'm not really liking this yarn for this shawl. Or any shawl. Or any knitting for that matter, I got over Funfur when I started knitting for real, and not just scarves. I'm trying to use up all my Funfur. I have a lot of it. I might make a few more of these out of Funfur, just because it works ok and isn't too bad, I just need a bigger needle size maybe. Anyway, whatever.

Ok, so on all my favorite knitblogs, I've seen this website popping up: Ravelry. I, like the stoic individual I am, after reading about it, was mildly interested, but upon hearing that you had to be invited in, decided it wasn't for me. This was the reason I wasn't a cheerleader, or in a sorority. Who were these people to tell me I couldn't do something?

Friday I found a site that said Ravelry had a preview page, with screen shots to show what it would look like. Still mildly interesting in the raving of the blogs about it, I decided to look. I shouldn't have.

This is about the coolest thing ever. They weren't keeping people out because of a knitting popularity contest; they were still building the site, and it was for yahoobeta, and it couldn't handle a lot of people in it right now. This makes sense, and I knew that yahoobeta was coming, so it was a rational reason. I looked at the screenshots, and I was lost. It is really neat. There are going to be sooo many people in this eventually, and since we're knitters, we'll all be friendly.

It has pages for stash, pages for WIPs, UFOs, and even pages for things you don't want, so you can trade with others if you want. There are pages of finished projects, patterns in every different type of yarn you can think of, so you can see what your yarn looks like in different projects, or what patterns look good with what yarn. This is just brilliant.

I put myself on the waiting list. I can't wait for this to be out. Really, just brilliant.

Pair 'a Monkeys

The Monkey sox are finished.

And only a little bit too tight. I'm going to wear them until they stretch out.
Maybe in these shoes.Yes, they're a little old. No, I don't remember what year I got them. 2003 maybe? Anyway, they're see-through and perfect for showing off my kool knitted sox. And the soles aren't as dirty as they look, I washed them, they're stained. And the flash really messed with the colors.

Here's a pair of sox that I knit in about August of last year. They were the first pair that I knit for me, using the knee sock pattern in Stitch 'N Bitch, and Lion Brand (I think) Microspun socks. Size 2 needles. I also had to add elastic to the cuff to keep them from drooping.
Neat, huh? And yes, my legs really are that white. Shut up.

Second Verse, Same as the First

So, you might remember a few months ago I made a pair of Monkey socks for my friend Katie. Well, I really liked the pattern. I liked it so much, I started a new pair, with a few adjustments of course.

I shortened the cuff, with just two repeats instead of six. I changed the twisted rib at the top of the cuff to double rib. I didn't follow a pattern for the toe, I just winged it.

Oh, and I changed needle size from 2 to 1. But it's the same pattern.
I'm at the heel flap on the second one. I really like this pattern, it's easy to memorize and goes so quickly. I think I'll use it on the other pair of socks I need to make this month too.

I'm almost half done with the second sleeve of my hoodie. I can't find the circular needle for the hood for the life of me though. I'll find it eventually, probably right after I buy a new one. Sigh. Sometimes life is so predictable.

I'm considering making another pair of Hobo gloves. I have a lot of the same yarn left, and it might be enough for a new pair. I really need a yarn measurer thingy, a digital box that you run yarn through and it measures it. Then I could half the yarn exactly. Man, that'd be so great.

I want to make a lace shawl. I have the pattern picked out. I have no circular neeldes, at least none with me. I have a size 4, 11, and 13 at home, and a size 6 that's lost somewhere (hoodie needle) and the pattern I picked requires a size 7, so since I'm such a loose knitter (hehe) the size 6 would be just about right. But until I find the needle, the I don't see me starting one for a while, because I'm under no circumstances going to buy any new needles until I get a job.

Anyway, nothin else on the needles presently. I've been very good lately about not starting too many projects at once. I need to fix the Clessidra socks, finish the lace scarf, the Monkey socks, and the hoodie. I can't start new gloves till one of the pairs of socks is done, because I only have one pair of size 1 dpns. I might have to buy some more of those eventually; they're my favorite size.

I see another job at Micheals or Hobby Lobby in my future, because rebates are so worth it.

Something's Gotta Change...And It Ain't Gonna Be Me

These are undoctored photos of the horror that has become Clessidra. Where once I loved freely, I have now found my love scorned by The Puffy Heel From Hell. It's too long, too wide, and far, far too puffy.

Even more discouraging, I have been scouring the blogs for months (hehe Freudian Slip, I typed moths) for someone else that has had a problem with the heel of this sock, and I can't find anyone. My feet are apparently very odd, with the smallest heels known to man. I know this isn't true, because I tried to knit the Jaywalkers pattern and the darn thing wouldn't even fit over my heel. So I ask you, blog world, WTF?

Since it can't be a problem in the pattern or someone would

have noticed, I see three choices here:

1. My feet are, as previously stated, shaped oddly.
2. I misread the pattern and did something odd to it.
3. The way I knit is odd, like the tension or something,
   and it made the heel puffy and ill-fitting.

And I have three choices on what to do now:

1. Keep knitting and hope that it will all turn out alright.
2. Rip the heel out and change the pattern to something that fits better.
3. Throw it back in the closet and ignore it for three more
   months until I decide to salvage the yarn for another sock pattern.
   
   So, what do you think? I'm throwing it back in the closet until I decide what to do.
